Baby Proofing:
When should we start?
Technically, baby proofing should start before your baby is born. There
are many things to do in your house to prepare for the arrival of your
infant (see "Getting ready for your new baby"). At each stage
of your baby's development, new safety concerns will arise. Therefore,
you will need to constantly re-evaluate the safety of your home and
baby-proof it accordingly. In general, you should at least start baby
proofing by the time your baby starts moving (i.e. rolling and crawling)
as this poses the most risks to her safety.
What are the "danger spots"?
The most common "danger spots" in any home are:
1. Staircases and stairwells
2. Electrical outlets
3. Fireplaces
